Orlando, FL – Alouettes linebacker Ramon Guzman will be starting his third season with the team this June and it appears as though the Als’ coaching staff is finally ready to bestow him with additional responsibilities.

Guzman had a breakout season last year, recording 27 defensive tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception, all numbers which he may very well improve on in 2011. “I had a better season in 2010 for sure,” said Guzman. “I was more familiar with the league, I tried hard to improve my game, and the coaching staff seemed pleased with my work,” he added during an interview which took place at the Alouettes’ official Mini Camp in Florida last week. “I plan on working hard again this year, and improving my game even further. I hope to be even more productive this season,” concluded Guzman.
During the off-season the Bronx native saw his position’s coach, Tim Tibesar, promoted to Defensive Coordinator, a move which has him excited about the coming season. “It’s going to allow us to better familiarize ourselves with the system. Before, whenever we had a question, our position’s coach had to verify the answer with the coordinator before getting back to us, whereas now we can expect to get answers on the fly,” said the player who’s better known amongst his teammates as ‘Guz’.
More consistent
Overall, Tibesar is happy to be able to count on a player like Guzman in his group of linebackers. “He grew a lot last season as a player. He was more consistent and he became a player on whom we could count on regardless of the situation,” said the Alouettes’ new Defensive Coordinator, who will also maintain his position as the team’s Linebackers Coach.
“He should be capable of achieving even more this year, in what will be his third season, given that he is already one of the rare linebackers that can excel as not only a rush player, but also both in the box and out in space,” concluded Tibesar.
