Montreal, June 9, 2011 – Receiver Jerry Porter, who appeared to have wings since the beginning of training camp, will unfortunately not be joining the Alouettes in 2011.
Injured during practice yesterday, the results from Porter’s medical today threw cold water on the former Oakland Raider’s plans to return to the game. Having suffered a torn Achilles tendon, Porter will have to undergo surgery, and as a result, sit-out the entire 2011 CFL campaign.
Although the news came no doubt as a disappointment to Porter, it also presented another receiver with an opportunity, namely, Prechae Rodriguez, who was able to take part in his first practice of training camp today following the former’s absence, putting yet another big target at the quarterbacks’ disposal, given that the latter measures 6’5”.
Another player who took part in his first practice of training camp today was Kitwana Jones. Suspended since the beginning of camp, the defensive lineman joined his teammates on the field today.
The day also held a surprise for the players, who saw the second of their two daily practices, originally scheduled for 10:35 a.m. this morning at Coulter Field, turned into a session by the pool. This came as a welcome change of events for the group that had been training hard in hot and humid conditions since their arrival in the Eastern Townships.

Training camp will resume on Friday at Bishop’s University’s, with back-to-back practices scheduled to start at 7:50 a.m.
