Sherbrooke, June 13, 2011 – With nine intense days of training camp already in the books, if the Montreal Alouettes are beginning to feel the ill-effects of fatigue, be it physically or mentally, then they’re doing a pretty good job of hiding it. Marc Trestman’s men were fired-up for Monday morning’s practice held at the Centre MultiSport Rolland-Dussault, which was hosting the day’s workouts due to inclement weather.
The team’s offensive unit appeared to be carrying the momentum early on, with linemen clearing gaping holes which allowed the running backs to trounce into the secondary virtually untouched. Even quarterback Anthony Calvillo broke for a long run, much to the delight of his teammates.
As the first practice came to a close, it was then the defence’s turn to shine and make plays. Defensive back Billy Parker claimed the only interception of the day, jumping in front of a pass, while newcomer Dwight Anderson left no doubt regarding his potential, staying on top of the ball throughout the session.
The intensity was at its highest however, while the team practised its Red Zone offence and defence.
“We saw a lot of energy and enthusiasm out there today and we really appreciate that,” said head coach Marc Trestman.
The day’s second practice was lighter and the team trained without any shoulders pads on. The Alouettes play their first pre-season game on Thursday in Montreal, against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased here.
Tomorrow
