Montreal, July 12, 2011 – Following another incredible performance at Mosaic Stadium last Saturday, during which Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo put himself on the brink of history, the 18-year veteran was named the CFL’s Offensive Player of the Week.
This is the second consecutive week that an Alouettes player receives such an honour, with receiver Jamel Richardson being named the same a week ago following the team’s season opener in Montreal.
Calvillo threw for five touchdown passes while leading the Alouettes to a wild 39-25 victory over the Roughriders, and now finds himself just a single touchdown pass away from becoming the leading touchdown passer in CFL history. He completed 29 of his 43 passes, good for 419 yards.
Calvillo will have the chance to break the record this Friday at Percival Molson Stadium, as the Montreal Alouettes are set to play host to the Toronto Argonauts.
With two weeks of football already in the books, Calvillo continues to display his dominance, leading the league in passing yards with 731 and in touchdown passes with 8. He has completed 51 of his 73 pass attempts, good for a completion rate of close to 70 percent.
This will surely be a memorable month for Calvillo, who is now only 6 touchdown passes away from becoming the first quarterback in CFL history to reach the 400 career passing touchdown plateau.
The Alouettes will face the Argonauts at Percival Molson Stadium this Friday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. (RDSHD, TSNHD, CKAC, CJAD and Sirius 158).
