Montreal, July 25, 2011 – Quarterback Anthony Calvillo and the Montreal Alouettes (3-1) will have a short week to lick their wounds and get ready for the Hamilton Tiger Cats (2-2) as they visit Ivor Wynne Stadium on Friday.
Fresh off of their first loss of the season, the focus from the Alouettes’ coaching staff this week will be on getting the players rested. Head Coach Marc Trestman has already confirmed that the team will hold only one practice prior to Friday’s match-up, set for Wednesday morning.
Trestman spoke briefly about his quarterback but is still uncertain about whether or not Calvillo will play this Friday. “He is day to day and still has blurred vision and a sore eye, but it doesn’t appear to be serious,” Trestman told reporters during media availability at Olympic Stadium on Monday.
Calvillo left the game midway through the second quarter on Sunday with an eye injury after a Dario Romero hit and did not return.
“His injury may be a result of the impact or possibly the helmet rubbing his eye. He will continue to be evaluated and when our doctors and therapists feel that he is ready, only then we will clear him to play,” Trestman added.
Backup Adrian McPherson filled in for Calvillo and may start against the Tiger Cats on Friday. The Alouettes, who are currently tied for first place in the East division with Winnipeg, are thus preparing game plans with both Calvillo and McPherson in the starting spot.
