Toronto, August 4, 2011 – After 30 minutes of football at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, the Montreal Alouettes lead the Argonauts by a score of 20-13.
The Alouettes started the contest with aggressive play-calling and relied on number of big plays to pick apart the Argos’ defence. Brian Bratton sparked the Alouettes’ offence early, hauling in a 42-yard pass on the game’s opening play. S.J. Green found the end zone five plays later, catching a 17-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Calvillo.
Calvillo has been impressive after two quarters, completing 18 of his 23 pass attempts for a total of 212 yards and one touchdown.
The veteran quarterback also made history, throwing his 5,159th career completed pass, and overtaking former Damon Allen for first overall in the category.
Montreal’s special teams have held returners Chad Owens and Andre Durie in check, while Alouettes’ kicker Sean Whyte drilled a 48-yard field goal near the end of the first half, his longest of the season.
