Toronto, August 4, 2011 – Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo broke the CFL record for most career pass completions tonight, eclipsing the record previously held by Damon Allen after throwing the 5,159th complete pass of his illustrious career against the Toronto Argonauts at the Rogers Centre.
The record-setting pass, thrown for 18 yards, was caught by receiver Brandon London with 3:35 to go in the first quarter.
This is the second record that Calvillo breaks in four weeks. Following a fantastic performance earlier this season, Calvillo became the career leading touchdown passer in CFL history. Incidentally, both records have been broken against Toronto.
Furthermore, only two touchdown passes currently separate Calvillo from becoming the first quarterback in CFL history to have thrown 400 career touchdown passes.
Finally, the Montreal Alouettes’ quarterback is also closing in on Allen’s career passing yards record. Prior to the start of tonight’s game, Calvillo was just 2,735 yards short of Allen’s record, having thrown for 1,485 so far this season.
