Montreal, August 9, 2011 – Following another incredible performance last Thursday, this time at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo was named the CFL’s Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second time this season that he receives the honour.
Calvillo completed 30 of his 36 pass attempts for 349 yards and one touchdown while leading the Alouettes to a 36-23 victory over the Argonauts. In the opening quarter, the 18-year veteran set a new CFL record after completing his 5,159th career pass. This is the second record that Calvillo has broken in four weeks, as fans will remember that following a fantastic performance earlier this season, Calvillo became the all-time leading touchdown passer in CFL history.
With six weeks of competitive football in the books, Calvillo leads the league in passing yards with 1,834 and in passing touchdowns with 12. Furthermore, with only five yards to go before reaching 70,000 career passing yards, he will likely pass yet another milestone on Thursday, when the Alouettes host the Edmonton Eskimos at home.
Additionally, he is also only two touchdown passes away from becoming the first quarterback in CFL history to reach 400 career passing touchdowns.
