Montreal, August 11, 2011 – The expectations going into tonight’s game were high, as the top two quarterbacks in the league were getting set to face-off. After 30 minutes of football, Anthony Calvillo and Ricky Ray have not disappointed, as both quarterbacks have put on a show for the fans in a game that Montreal currently leads 20-3.
Calvillo demonstrated why he is the reigning offensive player of the week by locating his receivers on crucial first downs throughout the half, while also reaching the 70,000 career passing yards plateau on his very first throw of the evening, connecting on a nine-yard strike to receiver Jamel Richardson.
Later in the half, Calvillo also became the first quarterback in CFL history to throw 400 career touchdown passes. The milestone was achieved following a 28-yard touchdown toss to Richardson in the second quarter.
The spectacular receiver also opened the scoring in the first quarter after hauling in a 14-yard touchdown catch, giving his team a 7-0 lead.
Heading into tonight’s game, the Alouettes had seven quarterback sacks on the season. After two quarters of play however, they have already recorded five, including back-to-back sacks by newcomer Moton Hopkins early in the first.
Non-import kicker Sean Whyte extended his hot streak and made both of his field goals attempts, connecting from 12 and 25 yards out. Whyte’s streak now stands at 17 straight successful field goal attempts.
