Montreal – The Alouettes were back yesterday, both in Montreal and at work, as Head Coach Marc Trestman held his team’s first practice following a bye week which saw most of the team, both players and coaching staff alike, head home to their families during their seven days off from football. And although the mid-season break often marks the only chance that many on the team get to do so, most seemed happy to be back at work, especially since they were treated to a relatively short practice.
Plus, football was never very far off of anyone’s mind anyway.
“The things that I’ve been able to accomplish here with my teammates have been amazing, but it’s definitely not over yet,” said quarterback Anthony Calvillo, who finally got the chance to reflect on the incredible feats that he’s achieved thus far in 2011 during his week off of the field.
A trio of starters were not present at yesterday’s practice, namely, Mark Estelle, Shea Emry, and Tad Crawford, each of whom were given extra time off for personal reasons. “Throughout the years I’ve been here, family has come first. I give the guys the opportunity to be with their families [should the need arise]” said Trestman during a post-practice interview, on the topic of his three absentees. All three are expected to be back by Monday.
The Alouettes, who also practiced earlier today, will practice three more times this week, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, before flying out to Alberta, where they take on the Stampeders in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m. The three practices will be open to the public as usual, and the full practice schedule with up to date times and locations can be viewed online here.
