Montreal – The race for the Eastern Division crown is looking more and more as though it will come down to a photo finish ending, as the Montreal Alouettes (5-2) currently sit in second place, trailing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-1) by two points and marking the first time in a long while that the East has seen such congestion at the top of the standings.
“In the past, 5-2 was good enough to land you first place in our division,” said quarterback Anthony Calvillo. “This season everybody is competitive and giving us their best shot.”
Despite emerging victorious in their last two meetings, defensive back Billy Parker feels like the best is still ahead for the Alouettes.
“The key to success rests in our daily pursuit of trying to get better. We trust in our preparation and if we can continue improving, we will be where we want to be and have success down the road,” said Parker following Wednesday’s practice.
The next obstacle lying in the Alouettes’ path to glory comes in the form of the Calgary Stampeders, a team which has been playing its best football in recent weeks after a rough start to the season.
“Top to bottom they are a very talented group. But we had a long week to prepare and watch film on them,” added Parker.
With identical records, both teams will be looking to establish their dominance while Montreal will also try to keep pace in the already-tight East Division race.
The Alouettes will face the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium this Saturday, August 27 at 4:00 p.m. EST (RDS HD, TSN HD, CKAC, CJAD and Sirius 157).
