Montreal, August 25, 2011 – Non-import defensive end J.P. Bekasiak was in a chipper mood following the Alouettes’ final practice of the week on Thursday, held indoors at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard due to inclement weather. Bekasiak, who was reported as doubtful, will be in the Alouettes’ rotation when the team gets set to face their western foes, the Calgary Stampeders this Saturday at McMahon Stadium.
“I will be playing in the game,” said an excited Bekasiak shortly after arriving in the players’ locker room. “I don’t know if I will be starting, but I’m just glad to be back.”
Bekasiak sustained a cartilage injury during second-quarter action versus the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton on July 29, following a tackle on former teammate Avon Cobourne.
Since being sidelined, the two-time Grey Cup champion has been doing everything in his power to rejoin his teammates. “Ice, massages and time were all instrumental in my healing process. Since it was a cartilage injury, those were the necessary ingredients for getting better,” added Bekasiak.
Although the Alberta-native found it difficult to spend the Alouettes’ last two games as a spectator rather than a participant, he did mention that he was proud of the performances displayed by his team.
Bekasiak attended all three of the teams’ practices this week and showed no lingering ill effects of the injury. “I feel great. The next step is going to be seeing how I feel running into guys and playing in an actual game,” he added after being out of action for nearly four weeks.
