Calgary – The Montreal Alouettes are showing no signs of rust following the bye week. Marc Trestman’s men currently lead the Calgary Stamperders 18-11 with 30 minutes to go at McMahon Stadium.
Alouettes slotback Jamel Richardson scored the game’s first major on a 16-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Anthony Calvillo. He also added another score in the second quarter, bringing his season total to seven. Richardson has now scored 41 touchdowns as an Alouette.
The Montreal defense got a huge boost in the first quarter after forcing a fumble on Joffrey Reynolds which was recovered by Mark Estelle. Veteran defensive end Anwar Stewart also chipped in and recorded his first sack of the season.
Former Stampeder Dwight Anderson, who recorded 10 interceptions during his tenure in Calgary, has been quiet thus far.
Sean Whyte one kick away from tying team record
Non-import kicker Sean Whyte kicked a 37-yard field goal early in the first, leaving him one field goal short of Don Sweet’s team record of 21 consecutive completed attempts, a mark which was set in 1976. Whyte, who has been perfect in his last six starts with the Alouettes will have the chance tie Sweet’s record in the second half.
Mark Estelle done for the day
Estelle sustained an injury to his left knee during first quarter action and will need to undergo further testing. He will not return to play in today’s game.
