Hamilton, September 5, 2011 – After two quarters of football on a cloudy Labour Day match-up being dubbed the ‘Classique’ at Ivor Wynne stadium in Hamilton, the Tiger-Cats (4-4) lead the Montreal Alouettes (5-3) by a score of 27-13.
Although the Alouettes are the visiting team, Montreal received a warm welcome from their loyal fans on-hand, many of whom travelled on the Fan Train to support their team. Approximately 200 fans made the trip and will get the chance to meet their favorite players following the game.
The Alouettes did a good job of combating the injuries which plagued them last week. Ramon Guzman filled-in nicely for the injured Shea Emry at middle linebacker and newcomer Seth Williams has fared well in his official debut with the two-time Grey Cup champions. Both defenders combined for 3 tackles.
De’Audra Dix recovered a fumble forced by Billy Parker and returned it 10 yards for the major on Hamilton’s opening drive to give his team a 7-0 lead.
Anthony Calvillo completed 11 of his 21 attempts for a total of 179 yards, while receiver Jamel Richardson caught six passes for 153 yards.
Kicker Sean Whyte made his 24th consecutive field goal in the first half and is now just four field goals shy of Dave Ridgway’s league record of 28 straight, a mark set in 1993.
Hamilton’s offence did a good job of disguising their plays and managed to reel off a few big gains.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ running back and former Alouette, Avon Cobourne tied the game at 7 in the first quarter following a 3-yard touchdown run.
