Montreal – After 30 minutes of football on a sunny afternoon at Percival Molson Stadium in downtown Montreal, the Montreal Alouettes find themselves leading the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a score of 29-10 in today’s much anticipated rematch of last Monday’s Labour Day Classic.
Things looked to be starting off slowly for the Alouettes as kicker Sean Whyte missed wide right on a 45-yard field goal attempt during the game’s opening drive.
Brandon London was quick to get the offence back on track however, scoring his first touchdown of the season on a 15-yard strike from Anthony Calvillo shortly thereafter. Running back Brandon Whitaker scored the game’s second major in the second quarter to give his team a 15-0 lead.
Receivers Kerry Watkins and Jamel Richardson padded the Alouettes’ score making nine- and 15-yard touchdown catches respectively.
Watkins is closing in on 500 career receptions with the Alouettes. He needs just one reception to surpass Red O’Quinn, with whom he is currently tied for second place in Alouettes’ history in terms of catches with 499. Watkins finished the first half with four catches for 58 yards and one touchdown.
Calvillo has tossed four scores so far today, throwing for 224 yards. Montreal-native Marc-Olivier Brouillette is making his 2011 CFL season debut and recorded one tackle on special teams.
All of Hamilton’s points were scored off of the foot of kicker Justin Medlock, who kicked a single and three field goals, including one from 57-yards out, five yards short of the league record.
Both teams are currently tied for second place in the Eastern division with identical records of 5-4.
