Montreal, September 13, 2011 – Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo enjoyed his best performance of the 2011 season versus the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday and was rewarded as the CFL’s Offensive Player of the Week. This is the third time this season that Calvillo has received this honour.
Calvillo completed 31 of his 45 pass attempts for 421 yards and four touchdowns while leading Montreal to a convincing 43-13 win over the Tiger-Cats. Following his stand-out performance, the 18-year veteran was also named the Player of the Game in front of the home crowd.
Sunday’s 421-yard performance was Calvillo’s best so far this season and marks the second time this year that he has thrown for over 400 yards within a game. Calvillo leads the league in passing yards with 3,100, in touchdown passes with 21 and has an impressive quarterback rating of 104.9. He needs a 1,121 yards to eclipse Damon Allen’s record for most career passing yards in CFL history.
The win now places Montreal in second place in the East division with a 6-4 record, just two points out of first place.
With first place on the line, the Alouettes will host the division-leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Percival-Molson Stadium on September 18 at 1:00 p.m. (RDS HD, TSN HD, 98,5 fm, CJAD and Sirius 158).
