MONTREAL – With only one practice scheduled this week ahead of the team’s Friday night showdown with the West Division leading Edmonton Eskimos, the Alouettes will be working even harder today at Stade Hébert in St. Léonard.
Faced with a short week, and with little time to allow their bodies to recover from Sunday’s loss to the Blue Bombers, the Als are nevertheless eager to get back onto the field. Marc Trestman’s squad is eager to show the rest of the league just what kind of football the two-time defending Grey Cup champs are capable of playing.
“A short week is good for us,” revealed defensive back Billy Parker. “It allows us to get back to work and on the field fast. It’s the best way to move on.”
No stranger to quick turnarounds between games, veteran receiver Kerry Watkins knows the team will be ready.
“We’ve had a lot of short weeks, so we know how to handle it. This week is more mental than anything else.”
And despite losing three of their last four, including two close games by a touchdown or less, optimism still reigns in the Alouettes locker room, something made evident by the comments of 10-year defensive end Anwar Stewart.
“All of our guys are ready to go. We dug ourselves into this hole, so we’ll be the ones to dig ourselves out of it. We haven’t had a Friday night game in a long time, and I’m excited. By the end of next month, I see us finishing first in our division.”
As always, this week’s practice is open to the public, and all fans are invited to attend.
The Alouettes’ practice schedule for the week ending Sunday, September 25, 2011 is as follows, although it is subject to change:
