MONTREAL – Montreal Alouettes running back Brandon Whitaker has been named the CFL’s Offensive Player of the Month for September. This marks the first time in his young career that Whitaker receives the honour, and the second time in as many months that an Alouette has been recognized by the league. Canadian kicker Sean Whyte earned last month’s Special Teams Player nod.
Whitaker was a dual-threat all month, racking up impressive numbers both on the ground and through the air, en-route to leading the Als back atop the East Division standings.
The league’s leading rusher piled up 367 rushing yards and a touchdown, while also proving to be a valuable target for quarterback Anthony Calvillo by hauling in 21 receptions for 222 yards and three TDs.
The first-year starter’s biggest game of the month saw him amass 113 rushing yards while hauling in five receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns. He was awarded Week 14 Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
Now sitting at 981 yards on the year, Whitaker is just 19 yards short of his first 1,000-yard season.
