MONTREAL – Defensive end Anwar Stewart and quarterback Anthony Calvillo were named the CFL’s Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, following Monday’s 29-19 victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
Anthony Calvillo – Offensive Player of the Week
Calvillo became pro football’s all-time passing leader in spectacular fashion with a 50-yard touchdown strike to receiver Jamel Richardson on the final play of the third quarter at Percival Molson Stadium. The 39-year-old also added a 19-yard touchdown run to help the Alouettes (9-5) clinch a playoff spot.
Calvillo completed 26 of his 38 attempts for 305 yards on his way to earning the league’s nod for the fourth time this season. The league leader with 4,268 passing yards on the year, Calvillo also hit the 4,000-yard plateau for the 10th time in his illustrious career this weekend.
Anwar Stewart – Defensive Player of the Week
Standout defensive end Anwar Stewart earned his first player of the week honours of the season. Stewart had three tackles and two sacks, including a sack of Argos Steven Jyles in the end zone for a safety.
