MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes and the Players’ Wives Association will once again be counting on your generosity this Sunday during the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive at Percival Molson Stadium when the Alouettes take on the Calgary Stampeders on October 30.
As of 11:30 a.m. and continuing through the end of the first quarter, the players’ wives will help Purolator and Sun Youth volunteers collect non-perishable food items and cash donations at each entrance of the stadium. Donors will also get the chance to have their photo taken with the Grey Cup at the Purolator booth located just past the East entrance. In addition, all donors will be entered in a draw for a chance to win an autographed Anthony Calvillo jersey.
All proceeds from the food drive will support the Sun Youth Food Bank, which distributes food each month to more than 2,000 local families, one of five of whom have children under the age of five. The Sun Youth Food Bank also provides emergency food assistance throughout the year. Fans can also text TACKLE to 30333 to make a one-time donation of $5.00, which will be added to their mobile phone bill with all proceeds benefitting Food Banks Canada.
At last year’s food drive, Montreal football fans helped raise 36,800 pounds of food for Sun Youth, representing a 48% increase from 2008.
