MONTREAL – After 30 minutes of playoff football at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, the Alouettes trail the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 24-16 in the 2011 Eastern Semi-Final.
The two teams are battling for the right to travel to Winnipeg and face the Blue Bombers in next Sunday’s Eastern Final.
Alouettes kicker Sean Whyte opened the scoring on a 49-yard field goal on Montreal’s second drive of the game, giving the home side an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Ti-Cats fired back on the very next series with a 50 yard touchdown run by Marcus Thigpen.
Hamilton then increased its lead following an Anthony Calvillo fumble, converting the turnover into points with a 27-yard field goal.
Whyte cut into the lead with his second field goal of the game on a 9-yard kick to make it 10-6 in the second quarter.
Brandon Whitaker, the league’s leading rusher, had a strong outing and scored Montreal’s first touchdown on a 7-yard scamper.
The lead was short-lived however, as Hamilton’s quarterbacking tandem hooked up with receivers Bakari Grant and Dave Stala on 29 and three yard passes respectively, the latter for a major..
Anthony Calvillo completed 12 of 19 passes for 230 yards, while Glenn went 10 for 14 for 106 yards and one TD.
The Montreal line was missing its regular left tackle Josh Bourke to injury, and import rookie Jeraill McCuller is playing in his first CFL playoff game.
