MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes will welcome university coaches from Quebec and Ontario as well as some of their quarterbacks to the team’s 2012 training camp, beginning on June 3 at Bishop’s University.
The team has invited all six head coaches and their coaching staffs from the Quebec Conference as well as the coaches from the universities of Ottawa, Queen’s and Carleton to attend one day of training camp in the company of head coach Marc Trestman and his staff.
“We want to kick start an initiative that can help as many coaches and players as possible in Quebec and in the CIS,” said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp, who reached out and made the arrangement with the CIS teams.
The CIS coaches slated to be on hand will include five-time Vanier Cup winning head coach of the Laval University Rouge et Or, Glen Constantin, former Alouettes kicker and now Concordia Stinger head coach Gerry McGrath, head coach of the Montreal Carabins Danny Maciocia, Sherbrooke University Vert et Or head coach David Lessard, Bishop’s University head coach Kevin Mackey, McGill Redmen coach Clint Uttley, Carleton Ravens coach Steve Sumarah, Queen’s Golden Gaels coach Pat Sheahan and Ottawa Gee Gees interim coach Cory McDiarmid.
The university coaches will learn from the Alouettes coaching staff as well as interact with them on June 4. In addition to the two daily practices that they will be able to attend, they will have a Q&A session with the coaches and get the chance to review film.
Also, each coaching staff can invite one underclassman quarterback from his attend to take part in the first two days of training camp. The chosen quarterbacks will report to camp with every other attendee on June 3 and will get to practice with Alouettes quarterbacks including Anthony Calvillo and Adrian McPherson. They will also attend team and position meetings with the other team members.
