MONTREAL – Former Alouettes offensive line coach Bill Stewart died on Monday. He was 59.
The former University of West Virginia football coach suffered an apparent heart attack according to the school’s athletic department officials.
Stewart guided the Alouettes’ offensive line in 1998. That season, his linemen blocked for All-Star running back Mike Pringle who became the first player in CFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.
Following his time with the Alouettes, Stewart moved on to become the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offensive coordinator before heading to the University of West Virginia where he held different coaching positions with the Mountaineers, including that of head coach from 2007 to 2010.
