MONTREAL – Three Alouettes have earned CFL Player of the Week honours following their late-game heroics in Montreal’s dramatic come-from-behind 33-32 win over the Calgary Stampeders at Percival Molson Stadium last Thursday night.
Anthony Calvillo – Offensive Player of the Week
Following another solid performance, Calvillo passed for 325 yards on his way to erasing a 12-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to help secure Montreal’s second consecutive victory of the season. The veteran pivot threw late touchdown passes to S.J. Green and Patrick Lavoie with under three minutes to play and completed 23 of his 38 passes good for three scores and no interceptions.
The 39-year-old has not missed a beat as he leads the league in passing yards with 942 and is tied for first in touchdown passes with Henry Burris with 8. He has also completed 70 of his 108 pass attempts, good for a completion rate of close to 65 percent.
This is the second consecutive week that an Alouettes player has earned offensive player of the week honours, with running back Brandon Whitaker being named a week ago. Calvillo earned the league’s nod three times last season, including Weeks 2, 11 and 15.
Jerald Brown – Defensive Player of the Week
Brown was clutch in helping the Alouettes clinch the victory after picking off a Kevin Glenn pass which he returned 33 yards in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. His turnover led to the game winning touchdown and the former Glenville State standout was named the Player of the Game for his efforts. Brown, who missed all of last season due to an ankle injury, amassed a season-high five defensive tackles and currently has nine on the season.
Shea Emry – Canadian Player of the Week
Jerald Brown was not the only Alouette to be recognized for his defensive efforts, as non-import linebacker Shea Emry got the nod for the Top Canadian for Week 3. The 26-year-old finished tied for first with Kenny Ingram for a team-high six defensive tackle, including one on special teams. Emry also recovered a fumble. On the year, the fifth year linebacker from Richmond, BC has totaled 12 defensive tackles, three special team tackles and one sack.
