MONTREAL – Brandon Whitaker and Sean Whyte have each earned CFL Player of the Week honours following their pair of standout performances in the Alouettes convincing 36-26 win over division rival Winnipeg Friday night at Canad Inns Stadium.

Brandon Whitaker – Offensive Player of the Week
Whitaker was a force in Week 6 and helped pave the way towards the Alouettes’ first road win this season. The Edmond, Oklahoma native amassed a game-high 115 yards on 18 carries while adding six receptions totaling for 64 yards, good for 179 yards from scrimmage on the night.
The 26-year-old running back is currently fourth in CFL rushing yards with 366, and has one rushing TD and three through the air to add to his tally.
This marks the second time this season that the CFL’s reigning leading rusher earns the honour, having also received the nod back in Week 2 following a three-touchdown, 235-yard outing.

The Alouettes continued to ride the hot foot in Week 6 as kicker Sean Whyte was perfect in Winnipeg, connecting on all four of his field goals attempts from 17, 32, 19 and 27 yards out. The non-import kicker matched his season-high in the process and now leads the CFL in kicking points scored (62), and is tied for the league lead in field goals (14) with BC’s Paul McCallum, as the midway point of the 2012 regular season approaches.
The White Rock, British Columbia native has connected on 14 of his 16 field goal attempts so far this season — good for 87.5% — and has been perfect on all 16 of his extra point attempts.
This is the third time in his career that the second-year Alouette gets the nod, having also received the honour twice last year in Weeks 7 and 9 on his way to being named the CFL’s Special Teams Player of the Month in August 2011.
