WHAT IS ALS?
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressing, fatal neuromuscular disease, which destroys the neurons of the voluntary muscles, gradually leading to total paralysis of the body, while leaving the mental faculties untouched. We do not know what causes ALS and no one has yet discovered a cure or a way to slow its progress significantly.
THE ALS SOCIETY OF QUEBEC
The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society of Quebec is a not-for-profit community organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with ALS and supporting their family members. We offer provide support and referrals for people with living ALS and their families. We also organize fundraising events, such as the Walks for ALS, to raise awareness of the disease among the general public as well as government officials and medical and paramedical practitioners.
HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS THE TONY PROUDFOOT FUND
Your donation helps in two very critical ways :
1. Supporting direct services for people with ALS and their families – educational information, referrals to local health care and community services, equipment assistance and coordination of peer support groups.
2. 50% of funds raised with Team Proudfoot support breakthrough research at the Montreal Neurological Institute.
