MONTREAL – Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo has been named the CFL’s Offensive player of the month for August.
The stellar play of the veteran pivot helped pave the way for the Als current three-game win streak to take over first place in the East Division with a 5-3 record. Calvillo completed a combined 64-of-97 passes for 1,024 yards in August with 7 touchdowns and a 65,9 completion rate, while being intercepted only twice.
The 40-year-old also celebrated his birthday in style last week, moving ahead of Warren Moon into second all-time in all of professional football for TD passes with 436. Pro football’s all-time passing leader is also tops in the league with 2,657 passing yards and sits second in TD passes (18), completions (183) and passer rating (106.4).
The 19-year veteran could also shatter the CFL single-season record for consecutive 300-yard passing games this week. With Calvillo’s string in that department now at a career-best seven games to tie co-record holder Doug Flutie, he will have the chance to break the record this Friday when the Als host to the B.C. Lions at Percival Molson Stadium.
The Los Angeles native also earned the league’s Player of the Week honours once this season in Week 3.

The Alouettes will host the B.C. Lions on Friday in a battle of first place teams in the CFL at Percival Molson Stadium at 7:30 p.m. (TICKETS – TSN, RDS, NBC Sports Network, CJAD 800, Sirius 157 & 154 and 98,5 fm). Both teams are on a roll as the defending Grey Cup champion Lions have won five straight while the Alouettes won their last three games.
