MONTREAL – The Alouettes announced on Tuesday that running back Brandon Whitaker suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during this past weekend’s hard fought victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The 27-year old will require surgical repair and will miss the remainder of the 2012 season.
After leading the CFL in rushing yards last season, Whitaker amassed 631 rushing yards on 123 carries with four rushing touchdowns, as well as 49 receptions for 516 yards and five touchdowns through Week 12.
Whitaker picked up 102 receiving yards, before leaving in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s game at Molson Percival Stadium. The Edmond, Oklahoma native also rushed for 45 yards, including one touchdown and returned two missed field goals for 80 yards.
As for receiver Brian Bratton, who hyperextended his right knee while leaping into the end zone, he is expected to miss several weeks.
The Alouettes will play their next game on Sunday, September 23 at 1:00 p.m., as the Toronto Argonauts will be the visitors at Percival Molson Stadium.
