MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes would like to wish Assistant General Manager Marcel Desjardins the best of luck as he has accepted to become the General Manager of the new CFL franchise in Ottawa which will join the league in 2014.
Desjardins joined the Alouettes as an Assistant Director of football operations in April of 1999 before being appointed the team’s Assistant General Manager in 2002, helping build Grey Cup champion teams in 2002, 2009, and 2010. During his time in Montreal, the Alouettes played in the Grey Cup game an impressive eight times. Before joining the Alouettes, Desjardins worked five years for the CFL. In August 2006, he became the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ General Manager before returning to Montreal following the 2007 season.
“On behalf of the Montreal Alouettes, I first want to congratulate Marcel for obtaining the job in Ottawa and second, to thank him for a fantastic job in the way he has serviced the Montreal Alouettes,” said Alouettes general manager Jim Popp. “Marcel is a real hero in the organization who doesn’t get nearly enough thank you’s that should go his way.”
“On a personal note, I couldn’t be happier for a great friend, partner and tremendous human being. Marcel has been a big part of our success in Montreal, and has been a great confidant for years,” continued Popp. “The Montreal Alouettes will have to hire multiple people to be able to handle the work load that Big Marce has carried over the years.
