MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes announced on Friday that former fullback Bruno Heppell has been named a team Ambassador. The former No. 33, rejoins former teammate Éric Lapointe, as well as Alouettes’ legend Peter Dalla Riva in the role of team representative.
Heppell, who played eight seasons with the Alouettes (1997-2004) and helped lead the team to a Grey Cup Championship in 2002, will now represent the Alouettes family in various community programs as well as events organized by the team. Also, thanks to his minor football expertise, he will be heavily implicated in the Alouettes’ different minor football programs.
“Bruno Heppell played an important role in the rebirth of the Alouettes and he has showed many times since his retirement that he has our organization’s success at heart,” said Alouettes Chief Operating Officer, Mark Weightman. “Bruno will play a major role in the elaboration and the realization of our many initiatives which will help contribute to the growth of football in Quebec. His interest and implication at this level are well known and his expertise as well his expertise will be valuable assets.”
The LaPrairie, QC native who is now the colour commentator for Alouettes games on 98,5 fm will continue his involvement with the Alouettes.
“I’ve always had the Alouettes “A” tattooed on my heart. I’ve spent so many great years of my life with the Alouettes on the field as well as off of it,” said Heppell. “Nothing pleases me more than pursuing my involvement with the organization and the Wetenhall family.”
In his new role as Ambassador, Heppell will also lend a helping hand in the team’s many other community initiatives, including the team’s annual blood drive, Community Football Festival and hospital visits as well as supporting the organization’s numerous efforts to support minor football.
First event this weekend
Heppell’s first outing as an Alouettes ambassador will take place this weekend during the Junior Alouettes Football Camp which will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Parc Hebert in St. Leonard.

Accompanied by current Alouettes players such as Patrick Lavoie, Quinton Porter, Scott Flory and John Bowman, Heppell will teach football to hundreds of youth players.
