MONTREAL – The 2013 CFL Canadian Draft kicks off this Monday, May 6 at noon ET, and the Alouettes will be on the clock nine times throughout the seven-round event, including twice in the first round.

Last year, Montreal used its first pick, eleventh overall, to select fullback Patrick Lavoie.

In 17 games last season, the Saint-Flavie, QC native’s 33 catches for 307 yards were good enough to tie a mark set by Ben Cahoon in 1998 for the most receptions by an Alouettes rookie, as well as to earn him a nod as the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie.
The first two rounds of the 2013 draft will air exclusively on TSN beginning at noon. The final five rounds will be available on TSN.ca via a live stream.
A seventh round was added to the CFL Canadian Draft for the first time this year in response to the increased depth of Canadian talent available.
RECENT DRAFT TRENDS
• Over the past 13 years, 62% of draft selections have come from CIS schools.
• In 2009, 79% of draft picks were from Canadian universities, the largest margin of the last 10 years.
• In 2012, 47% of draft picks came from NCAA schools, the highest percentage in 13 years (this includes
four draft picks from Simon Fraser University which now competes in the NCAA).
• Laval has had the most players drafted in the past 12 years (31), accounting for 4.9%, followed closely by
Manitoba (28 players – 4.4%) and Calgary (26 players – 4.1%).
• Toledo has the largest percentage of draft selections from a school south of the border in the past 10 years
(7 players – 1.3%).
