MONTREAL – Alouettes linebacker Kyries Hebert has been named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Month for July.
Hebert (6’3”, 222 lbs.) has thrived so far this season after undergoing a position change at training camp, as the safety-turned-linebacker has played a big role in the Alouettes stifling defence. The 32-year-old Eunice, Louisiana native has racked up a league leading seven sacks just five games into the 2013 CFL season.
Hebert has tallied 31 defensive tackles so far on the year, good for fifth place in the league, including one forced fumble as well as a fumble recovery. In addition to his duties on defence, the second-year Alouette has also contributed on special teams with five special teams tackles, tied for second on the team.
In Week 5 against Edmonton, Hebert wreaked havoc among the Eskimos offence, racking up 10 defensive tackles and a pair of quarterback sacks in a 32-27 win at Percival Molson Stadium. It was a performance that also earned him the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week honors a day ago.

Hebert and the Alouettes will be back in action on Thursday, August 8 when they host the Toronto Argonauts at Percival Molson Stadium.
