MONTREAL – The Alouettes announced on Tuesday that the club has added import defensive ends Anwar Stewart and Eze Obiora to the practice roster. Both players will be at Tuesday’s practice at Stade Hébert in Saint-Léonard.
Stewart (6’3”, 255 lbs.), rejoins Montreal after making eight Grey Cup appearances with the Alouettes from 2002 to 2011, and helping lead the team to championships in 2002, 2009 and 2010.
Stewart spent 10 years with the Alouettes and holds the club’s all-time record for career quarterback sacks with 66. The CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2004, Stewart was also named a CFL All-Star in 2004 and 2009.
Most recently, the 37-year-old signed with the Calgary Stampeders last October, where he proved his worth, recording four sacks in as many games, while helping Calgary reach the 100th Grey Cup game.
Obiora (6’3”, 240 lbs.), attended the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ training camp earlier this year, playing in one CFL pre-season game against the Alouettes where he recorded one defensive tackle. At Southern Illinois University, Obiora recorded 66 defensive tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 11 quarterback sacks, and three forced fumbles in his two seasons.
The club also announced that non-import defensive end Ameet Pall has been placed on the nine-game injured list and that non-import receiver Youssy Pierre has been released.
