But whether it’s the leaves changing, or the leads changing in the CFL’s East Division standings, here are our Top 5 reasons to catch a fall football game on the mountain this autumn.
1. The scenery
Already blessed with one of the most spectacular views in pro sports, the arrival of autumn takes things to another level, and not just in-stadium. Walking up the tree-lined streets of the McGill Ghetto among the flocks of fellow fans is something every Alouettes fan should experience.
With the fall weather comes the fall temperatures, and there’s something to be said about huddling around a barbecue with fellow Alouettes fans to stay warm pre-game. Especially when the barbecues are already on location, so you don’t have to lug yours with you. Also, mulled wine.
September may mean the arrival of fall, but it also means the arrival of students, and playing on a university campus, you can bet we’ve got students in mind, to the tune of $20 tickets, taxes and service fees included.
4. The real season starts
In the CFL, the second season doesn’t start with the playoffs. It starts on Labour Day with the final race to the playoffs. And with games against Edmonton, Hamilton and Toronto making up four of the Alouettes’ last six regular season games, you can bet there won’t be any non-games this fall.
5. Because summer’s not over yet
Fall is great, but it also means winter is right around the corner. So when Mother Nature promises us a high of 22 degrees and blue skies on Sunday, we don’t ask any questions and instead take advantage of summer’s last stand.
