MONTREAL – Alouettes defensive back Jerald Brown has been named the CFL’s Defensive player of the Week following his best performance of the season in a convincing 47-24 Hall of Fame Game win last Saturday over the Eskimos at Commonwealth Stadium.

Brown recorded his CFL-leading fourth and fifth interceptions of the season while adding three defensive tackles to help Montreal sweep the two-game regular-season series with Edmonton, allowing the Alouettes to improve to 6-8 on the year.
Brown anchored an Alouettes’ defence which forced six turnovers — five interceptions and one turnover on downs — as the fifth-year veteran picked off Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly in the opening quarter from the Montreal nine-yard line, removing potential points from the board.
Brown matched his career-best two interceptions in a single game after picking off a pass from Eskimos’ backup pivot Jonathan Crompton to end the third quarter. Brown has now tallied 25 defensive tackles on the year, and his five interceptions this season currently place him in a three-way tie for first in the league with teammate Geoff Tisdale and Argonauts DB Patrick Watkins.
This week’s nod marks the first time this season that Brown is named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week.
