MONTREAL – Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox and return specialist Bo Bowling have been named the CFL’s Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week respectively, following a convincing 36-5 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Sunday at Percival Molson Stadium.

The Alouettes improved to 7-9 on the season and tightened the race to clinch a home playoff date with the Tiger-Cats, who are second in the East division at 8-8.
Chip Cox – CFL Defensive Player of the Week
Cox continues to enjoy a career year as the Alouettes defensive playmaker collected a pair of quarterback sacks for the second time this season. He completed the game with six defensive tackles on Sunday, bringing his league-leading total to 104 on the year with two games left to play.
The eight-year veteran was instrumental in Montreal’s best defensive performance of the season, holding Hamilton’s offence to just 224 net yards. The club’s all-time leader in defensive tackles with 591 also received Player of the Month honours in August. He is now only six tackles short of the team record for defensive tackles set in a single season (110), established by Tracy Gravely in 1996.
Bo Bowling – Special Teams Player of the Week
The elusive returner combined for 118 yards on five punt returns while maintaining an impressive 23,6-yard punt return average in his 2013 season debut. The Oklahoma State University product picked up right where he left off in 2012, making key plays on special teams, including a 33-yard return that led to a second consecutive Alouettes’ touchdown drive as quarterback Troy Smith connected with slotback S.J. Green to give Montreal an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Bowling also added a career-long 58-yard return in the second quarter while contributing offensively with two catches for 23 yards, bringing his total yards from scrimmage to 141.
