MONTREAL – The Canadian Football League announced on Tuesday that Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox has been named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Month for October.

Cox was a highlight in the Alouettes’ Week 19 win over the Argonauts, recording five defensive tackles and a pair of quarterback sacks Friday at Rogers Centre to close the regular season. This is the second Player of the Month selection for Cox this season, who also earned the award in August.
The Alouettes’ 2013 nominee for the league’s Most Outstanding and Most Outstanding Defensive Player notched a fourth multiple-sack game this season, bringing his season sack total to 12 — good for fourth in the CFL and first among Alouettes.
The eight-year veteran amassed a league-leading 115 defensive tackles this season as well as four interceptions and nine special team tackles. Between weeks 15 and 19, he recorded 25 defensive tackles, six sacks and one interception.
In the CFL’s final month of regular season play, Cox also recorded his 600th career defensive tackle on the way to breaking a team record set by Tracy Gravely in 1996 for the most defensive tackles in a single season (110).
