Edwards (5’9”, 189 lbs.) participated in the 2013 NFL Combine before signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent last year, taking part in the team’s training camp.

Collegiately, the Cleveland, OH native played two seasons with the Rainbow Warriors at the University of Hawaii after transferring from the Coffeyville Community College Ravens in 2010.

In his two years with the Rainbow Warriors in 2011 and 2012, Edwards registered 86 tackles, three interceptions, and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns—two of which went for over 100 yards in a single season.

“Mike brings his dual ability to the Alouettes,” said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp. “He is a superb bump-and-run corner and has had an outstanding career as a returner in college.  We welcome Mike to the nest.”

The 22-year-old also saw time as a running back and wide receiver at Hawaii, in addition to returning kicks on special teams. In 2012, he led all college football players south of the border in total kickoff return yards with 1,215, maintaining a 30.4-yard average per return. He was also named the team MVP that year.

While at the University of Hawaii, Edwards was coached by former Alouettes’ defensive backs coach Daronte’ Jones.
