MONTREAL – Alouettes’ current and former players played a charity hockey game at the Centre Sportif Mégantic in Lac-Mégantic, Saturday evening. The sums amassed during this event will be split up between the Fonds Avenir Lac-Mégantic and the Béliers from the Montignac polyvalente.
Once the players arrived in Lac-Mégantic, the Béliers’ head coach, Yannick Thibault, gave the Alouettes a heartfelt welcome in his hometown, explaining to the players how the events unfolded there last July. Even 10 months after the tragedy, the repercussions of the train derailment can be felt in the city as abandoned buildings and contaminated zones can be seen seen downtown, not far from where the charity hockey game was played Saturday night.
The evening started off strong with a photo and autograph session at the Centre Sportif Mégantic. During this festive evening, young Alouettes’ fans were smiling as they got to interact with their favorite players.

The culminating point of this emotional day followed as both teams hit the ice for a friendly hockey game.
“A great organization, a beautiful day and an extraordinary community, what more could we have asked for,” said Alouettes linebacker Nicolas Boulay.
Many current and former Alouettes players insisted on making the trip to Lac-Mégantic for this event. The team was comprised of Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, Nicolas Boulay, Éric Deslauriers, Bruno Heppell, Marc-Olivier Brouillette, André Bolduc, Steve Charbonneau, Danny Desriveaux, Dave Mudge and Mark Weightman. Chearleeders and team mascot Touché were also on hand to pump up the crowd all while distributing Alouettes and Béliers souvenirs.
More than 700 Méganticois showed up for the game which was a great success. The Alouettes might have won by a score of 10-8, but every one on hand was a winner.
