TC14: Day 3 Report

MontrealAlouettes.com

LENNOXVILLE – It appears as though defensive back Jerald Brown has picked up exactly where he left off in 2013 following his first-ever CFL All-Star season.

Absent during the first two days of training camp as he was attending his eldest daughter’s graduation, the 33-year-old athlete made his presence felt on Tuesday as he picked off a Troy Smith pass on the first play of practice.

In 2013, Brown amassed 52 defensive tackles while making 5 interceptions and returning a fumble for a touchdown.

“It was great having Jerald back in the fold. He is a true professional and a leader. He is all-business and has a physical presence on the field,” said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp.

But as has been the case since the beginning of camp, the offence meanwhile has been practising as if it has something to prove, following up on the opening play with a long touchdown pass from Smith to Kenny Stafford in the end zone moments later.

Generous with his time

Receiver Chad Johnson has more than 3.5 million followers on Twitter (@ochocinco) and following Tuesday’s practice, his fan base got even bigger, as he stuck around on the field well after practice ended to share some insights with a couple of young Alouettes defensive backs before taking questions from a few players and coaches from the Bishop’s University Gaiters football team for close to half an hour.

Rapid fire

Alouettes Head Coach Tom Higgins was the most popular man on campus following Day 3’s first practice when he announced that Tuesday’s afternoon practice was cancelled, giving his players the rest of the day off… A number of offensive non-import players stood out as Jerod Zaleski made two catches, including one very long one which got a reaction from his teammates on the sidelines. Kyle Graves impressed with a similar play moments later, while Steven Lumbala made a spectacular catch near the end of practice.

Tomorrow

The Alouettes will once again hit the field starting from 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, for back-to-back practices at Coulter Field.
