LENNOXVILLE – With one week of training camp already in the books, game day is closer than ever, especially if you’re an Alouettes fan.
Can’t wait for the official pre-season calendar to kick-off? Then you’ll want to be in Sherbrooke this weekend when the Alouettes host a mock game Saturday morning at Coulter Field on the campus of Bishop’s University, starting at 11:00 a.m.
The day will have all the makings of a real Alouettes home game, even if it doesn’t count in the standings — but don’t tell that to the players who will be grinding for a roster spot.
Coach Higgins has already revealed that he plans to run 50 to 60 offensive plays during the inter-squad scrimmage and quarterback Troy Smith will get the start opposite the Alouettes’ first defensive unit.
“It’s a great opportunity for our fans to come and observe our game-day routine,” explained Alouettes centre Luc Brodeur-Jourdain. “Our fans will get a better understanding of what goes on during a game. They’ll see how we transition to the field and what goes on on the sidelines.”
Adding to the authenticity will be a full team of CFL officials, including referee Andre Proulx, who will be throwing flags as the Alouettes fine-tune for 2014.
And it wouldn’t be an Alouettes game day without team cheerleaders and mascot Touché, who will also be on-site.
Fans looking to gear-up for the 2014 season meanwhile will be able to take advantage of special deals at the Red Zone trailer, with up to 80% off select merchandise.
Saturday’s scrimmage is free to attend for fans of all ages, just like the Alouettes’ entire 2014 training camp set to run through June 19.
