SEAN WHYTE IS CLOSE TO ANOTHER PERFECT SEPTEMBER »

Alouettes kicker Sean Whyte is currently in the middle of an impressive streak. Whyte hasn’t missed a field goal since the August 22nd matchup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Friday night, against Ottawa, Whyte will try to go through his 5th consecutive game without missing a field goal or a PAT.

During in his streak, Whyte made 10 field goals and 11 PAT. This means that the CFL’s 29th best scorer of all-time has made his last 21 kick attempts and the he could complete his first month without missing a kick since August 2011.

A dominant offensive line

Montreal has always counted on a good offensive line and the 2014 season is just another example. The line has played particularly well in the last 3 games in which they allowed a total of 2 sacks. It makes a big difference because the Alouettes are 4-1 when they allow a quarterback sack or less in 2014.

The importance of a good start

We always hear that it’s important to play the full 60 minutes and the Alouettes are proving it this season. Montreal is 3-1 in 2014 when they lead or it’s tied after the first quarter. It’s not surprising since this is nothing new. Since 2008, the Alouettes are 55-20 in this situation while they are 16-29 when they trail after the first 15 minutes of the game. It seems that if you play against the Alouettes and you snooze, you lose.

A feeling of déjà vu

The Alouettes are not too proud of their 4-8 record but it’s far from insurmountable. The Als had the same record last year before winning 4 of the last 6 games in route towards a playoff berth. During the next weeks, Montreal will try to mimic that streak in order to avoid becoming the first edition of the team since 1986 to win less than 8 games in a season.

Taking the show on the road

On Friday, the Alouettes will try to win their first game on the road this year. Their 5 games losing streak away from home is their longest since their CFL return in 1996. Thankfully, the other tendencies favor the Alouettes that have won 3 of their last 4 games while Ottawa is in the midst of an 8 games losing streak.

MILESTONES TO WATCH »

  • Friday’s game will be the 100th of Billy Parker’s career in the CFL.
  • When he rushes for 5 yards on Friday, Brandon Whitaker will become the first running back of this CFL season to get to 700 rushing yards.
  • Duron Carter is 2 receiving yards away from the 1500 milestone with the Alouettes.
  • Carter also need 3 catches to get to a 100 in his CFL career.
  • John Bowman needs 2 quarterback sacks to become the 21st player in the history of the league to get to 80 in his career.
