MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes would like to congratulate quarterback Troy Smith for his induction to the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame. Smith will be honoured and inducted at Ohio Stadium on Saturday during the Buckeyes’ game against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
From 2003 to 2006, Smith won an outstanding 25 of his 28 starts with the Buckeyes and, to the great pleasure of Ohio State fans, went undefeated in 3 matchups against the bitter rival Michigan Wolverines.
In 2006, 7 years before he joined the Alouettes, Smith led Ohio State to a perfect 12-0 season and capped it off with a Big Ten Championship title and Heisman Trophy, handed out each year to the top college football player in the United States.
The Cleveland, OH native wrapped up his college career with 5720 passing yards, 420 of 670 completions and 54 touchdown passes to go along with only 13 interceptions. He also had 293 carries totalling 1168 rushing yards, carving his reputation for being a dual-threat passing and running quarterback.
Smith will be enshrined alongside two coaches and ten former athletes, including Canadian hockey player Tessa Bonhomme, who recently joined TSN, the exclusive broadcaster of the CFL.
