MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes and the Players’ Wives Association will be once again counting on fans’ generosity this Sunday during the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium when the Alouettes host the Toronto Argonauts on November 2 for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. and continuing through the end of the first quarter, Alouettes players’ wives will help Purolator and Sun Youth volunteers collect non-perishable food items and cash donations at each entrance of the stadium. Donors will also get the chance to have their photo taken with the Grey Cup at the Purolator booth. Furthermore, all donors will be entered in a draw for the chance to win an autographed Marc-Olivier Brouillette jersey.

All proceeds from the food drive will support the Sun Youth Food Bank, which distributes food each month to more than 2,000 local families, one of five of whom have children under the age of five. The Sun Youth Food Bank also provides emergency food assistance throughout the year.

At last year’s food drive, Montreal football fans helped raise over 26,700 pounds of food for Sun Youth.

Early arrival

Alouettes fans are asked to arrive early on Sunday as kickoff will be at noon, i.e. one hour earlier than usual. Sunday also marks the day that clocks are turned back an hour. Also, following last week’s events, extra security measures will be in effect on Sunday. Bags will notably be searched at every stadium entrance.

With a win against the Argonauts on Sunday, the Alouettes would qualify for the playoffs for a 19thconsecutive season. For this game, the team will don its third signature uniform which pays tribute to the 425 squadron.

Sunday also marks Fan Day presented by Tim Hortons and every fan at the stadium will receive the 2014 Alouettes team photo. All Alouettes merchandise will be discounted by 25% at the different Red Zone locations at the stadium. There will also be many prizes to be won, including a helicopter tour accompanied by Alouettes kicker Sean Whyte, a prize offered by Bell Helicopter.

Also, for every turkey drumstick sold on Sunday, le Dindon du Québec will donate one dollar to PROCURE, an organism whose goal is to find ways to help prevent and cure prostate cancer.
