MONTREAL – This Sunday, the Montreal Alouettes and B.C. lions will lock horns in a pivotal Eastern Semi-Final matchup. For the winner, a trip to the Eastern Final is guaranteed. For the loser, a locker room clean out awaits and cleats will be hung up until the 2015 season.

Thankfully for the Alouettes, the game will be held on home turf where the Lions have succumbed to defeat twice in their past playoff encounters. Along with home field advantage, they can count on the support of their dedicated fans who will brave the cold to cheer them on. The Weather Network is predicting between -2 and 3 degrees Celsius with the possibility of snowfall. Say hello to playoff football, folks.

Ask any fan of professional and university football in Quebec and they will tell you to never underestimate November weather. When watching a game from the stands, keeping the body warm becomes just as important as a game-winning touchdown.

Here are a few tips on what to wear when attending an outdoor CFL playoff game:

1. Winter Bootsstyle is secondary in football

They may not scream out ‘fashionista’ but winter boots are indispensable. Four hours without moving in the freezing cold is long and your toes will thank you for avoiding the frostbite.

2. Long Johnsbecause a pair of jeans is never enough

Long johns are to fans what football gloves are to Duron Carter: essential for a great performance. And your performance (a vocal one, that it) will be ever so important during the game on Sunday! What are the advantages of wearing Long Johns? They keep your warm and are not cumbersome, two important qualities that are key to fighting the cold.

3. Tuques & GlovesShow your colors!

It is a fact; the human body loses a majority of its heat at the extremities (head and hands). We suggest a tuque (preferably in the colors of the Alouettes) and gloves that do not keep humidity.

BONUS: Dress in layers – Skiers know a thing or two about this technique!

If you want to tackle the cold, it is recommended to wear layers of clothing and not just a sweater. Why? If you get too warm, you can easily remove a layer and avoid sweating!
