Montreal – The Canadian Football League unveiled its 2014 CFL All-Stars on Thursday, which saw receiver Duron Carter and linebacker Bear Woods make the list. This is a first nomination for both players.

Receiver: DURON CARTER (1st selection)

CFL All-Star: 2014

International receiver Duron Carter, who was selected as the Alouettes Most Outstanding player in 2014, finished the season ranked third in the league for pass receiving with an impressive total of 1030 yards and seven touchdowns on 75 catches, in only fourteen contests. He was without a doubt the preferred target of young quarterback Jonathan Crompton. At 23 years of age, the young receiver also scored a touchdown on a missed field goal he returned 123 yards. The Fort Lauderdale, FL native was voted player of the game by hometown fans on seven different occasions. He had the best outing of his career on November 2 when he amassed 181 receiving yards in 11 receptions. He also tallied the winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter that helped his team clinch a playoff spot for the 19th consecutive year. This performance earned him the title of Offensive Player of the nineteenth week in the CFL. The son of legendary receiver Cris Carter has truly established himself as one of the biggest offensive threats in the league.

Linebacker: BEAR WOODS (1st selection)

CFL All-Star: 2014

In his fourth season with the team, international linebacker Bear Woods has been a key contributor in defensive coordinator Noel Thorpe’s squad. After missing the team’s first six outings in 2014, the 27 year-old athlete made an immediate impact when he returned to the roster and experienced his best career moments in the CFL. The Troy University product placed second in the league with 89 defensive tackles, including seven sacks. His sensational season was emphasized on several occasions this year when he notched two Defensive Player of the Month honours in September and October as well as a Defensive Player of the Week title on week fourteen. His presence transformed an already very effective defensive squad into a threatful unit. He has been an integral part of a defence that lead the CFL with 47 turnovers.

The American linebacker did not only excel at putting pressure, but also in coverage, picking off one pass this season. He also forced two fumbles while playing on a regular basis on special teams where he made two other tackles.

The All-Stars were selected by a panel comprised of Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) members and CFL head coaches.
