MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes, in partnership with the Cogeco 98.5 FM radio network, announced on Wednesday that Jean St-Onge will be the official Alouettes French play-by-play voice for the 2015 season. St-Onge has more than 30 years experience in sports journalism, and he’ll be joined at the microphone by Jacques Dussault, with whom he has had a long-standing partnership calling Quebec university football games.

Longtime known for his major league baseball coverage of the Montreal Expos for la Presse Canadienne and TQS, Jean St-Onge called his first football games for RDS in the 1990s along with Mike Sutherland and Jacques Dussault. With Radio-Canada since 2001, he has had the opportunity to cover – with no shortage of emotion and passion – the biggest events in the football world, namely the Grey Cup, the Vanier Cup since 2009, and Super Bowl XLI in 2007.

“It is a true pleasure for me to be joined by my good friend Coach Dussault, who I have enjoyed working with for a long time now. I am also very grateful to Radio-Canada and 98,5fm for giving me this opportunity to call Alouettes games this season,” St-Onge said.

“We are very happy to add such quality to our broadcast, added 98,5fm Sports Director Michel Tremblay. We are convinced that the presence of Jean St-Onge and Jacques Dussault will satisfy our listeners’ expectations, as well as those of Alouettes fans.”

Along with his many years of experience calling both professional and university football games, Jean St-Onge has also covered the daily activities of the Montreal Canadiens, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Euro 96, and Montreal Expos and Toronto Blue Jays baseball. He was at both the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the Sotchi 2014 Olympics. At Sotchi 2014, he called the women’s hockey tournament, which concluded with Canada’s spectacular victory over the United States in the gold medal game.

“98.5 FM is the leader when it comes to sports radio broadcasting at the highest level and Jean St-Onge’s addition to their team brings credibility, experience and passion to Alouettes broadcasts,” said Mark Weightman, president and chief executive officer of the Montreal Alouettes.

The kick-off for the Alouettes 2015 season on the Cogeco 98,5fm radio network will be Saturday, June 13 when the Alouettes play the Ottawa Redblacks at Université Laval’s Stade Telus, in the first pre-season game for both teams.
