2015 mini-camp report – Day 3

VERO BEACH – The 2015 Alouettes mini-camp is now in the books as coaches and players left the field with confidence on Friday following another intense practice that saw players on both sides of the ball make big plays.

“It exceeded our expectations,” said Alouettes head coach Tom Higgins. “You hope to see certain things happen, but this exceeded what were expecting. The players arrived and they were focused. Plus, we were able to create some camaraderie here in Vero Beach.”

This year’s mini-camp proved without a doubt that there is no lack of talent at any position on the Alouettes roster, but in a league where the passing game is so important, receivers once again caught the attention on this last day of mini-camp.

This time, Brandon London had people take notice as he made at least three spectacular catches. Rookie Brandan Green also hauled in two impressive passes.

Versatile running back Stefan Logan also left a good impression as he did well in drills where he was facing linebackers in one-on-one situations. He also impressed in simulated game situations hauling in a nice 45-yard throw from Tanner Marsh.

Good experience for Crompton

Alouettes starting quarterback Jonathan Crompton joined the Alouettes in-season last year, so this marked the first occasion for him to start from the beginning and get a chance to assimilate the playbook and create chemistry with his teammates.

“I had a chance to look at many things and work with the guys. You can’t recreate the tempo and the reps that we took here,” said number 18. “Centre Luc Brodeur-Jourdain was here and I got to take snaps from him so that will help be in sync.”

On defence, national linebacker Nicolas Boulay stood out, intercepting a Tanner Marsh pass late in practice.

Coaches and players will regroup in just over a month as the Alouettes training camp will get underway at Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke on May 31.
