Sherbrooke – The Alouettes returned to MultiSport Roland-Dussault complex in Sherbrooke on Tuesday for a shorter day as only one training session was scheduled. Players preserved their momentum and enhanced their on field training in preparation for a busy afternoon filled with team meetings.
The return of two pillars
Having missed the first couple of days of training camp for personal reasons, Alouettes veterans Chip Cox and Jerald Brown jumped onto the field to re-join there teammates and begin training for the upcoming 2015 season. Both didn’t seem out of tune, immediately making their presence felt, as Cox made an outstanding interception, which got the attention of the players on the sidelines. As for Jerald Brown, he did what he does best, which is effectively covering opposing receivers while creating havoc for anyone that is matched-up with him.
An explosive receiver
A player that really stood out was the dynamic and explosive receiver and returner James Rodgers. He made his mark last season on special teams as a returner and once again proved his versatility to the Alouettes coaching staff Tuesday. Continuing his excellent performance, Rodgers made some outstanding catches, including a 50-yard touchdown catch from Tanner Marsh, before making an outstanding grab in double coverage only a couple of plays later. Both coaching staff and teammates noticed his excellent performance, praising his ability from the sidelines.
A couple of newcomers
A couple of players made their first appearances, including Chris Ackie who jumped on the field for the first time. The team’s first overall pick (fourth total) signed a three-year deal Monday with the Alouettes. Defensive Back James Huguely, newcomer to the Alouettes’ nest, stood out making his first interception of Training Camp.
Defensive Tackle Alan-Michael Cash was back on the field after spending the past 2 days on the sidelines recovering from a minor injury.
Transactions
Chip Cox and Jerald Brown were not the only players to jump on the field for the first time, as newcomer Justin Caliste also made his spring debut for the Alouettes on Tuesday. The international receiver/returner was added on the roster after the team let international defensive back Jamaan Webb go. Offensive lineman Ryan White and receiver Mardy Gilyard were placed on the injured list.
Tomorrow
The 2015 Alouettes Training Camp will continue tomorrow at Bishop’s University’s Coulter Field, as the team will partake in two consecutive practices beginning at 7:50 a.m.
