Training Camp Report – Day 5

Montrealalouettes.com

Sherbrooke – Player preparations are going well for the Alouettes as they took to the field on Thursday morning on Bishop’s University’s Coulter Field for the fifth day of the 2015 Training Camp. Both players and the numerous supporters of the Alouettes were treated to perfect conditions for football.

A Leader of Men

Quarterback Jonathan Crompton has been partaking in his first training camp with the Alouettes. As one of the architects of the Alouettes spectacular comeback in 2014, he is really starting to put his stamp on the offence all while demonstrating his growing leadership capabilities.

“I am comfortable being the starting quarterback, especially with the depth, the attitude and the chemistry that we have in this locker room,” declared the Alouettes’ quarterback. “The stability in our coaching staff mixed with my teammates’ desires to perform, make my job that much easier.”

Same story, different day

It seems like every day, a new player on defence steps it up, offering a solid on-field performance. Thursday was veteran linebacker Kyries Hebert’s turn, whose sparkling performance merited full attention from both the coaches and his teammates, as he finished the day with two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown. Mitchell White resumed where he had left off the day before by adding an interception, his fourth of training camp. Cornerback Geoff Tisdale also had an impressive day making a one handed interception to then return it for a major.

“The fact that we have to face our excellent defence every day really helps us,” mentioned Crompton after practice. They push us to our limits and we want to push them to their limits, ultimately that is the goal of a training camp.”

The receivers in great form

Rookie receiving Cody Hoffman rejoined his fellow teammates today after missing a couple of sessions due to a minor injury. Ben Cahoon’s former apprentice at BYU did not miss a beat making his presence felt on multiple occasions, including a sensational grab for a touchdown while he had his back to the play. Everything seemed routine for national receiver Kyle Graves, as no play seemed to cause him any trouble while he made multiple extended catches and showed his form to all who were watching.

Transactions

Before jumping on the field, The Alouettes proceeded to a few transactions as they released linebacker Kyle Norris. The team added international defensive back Terry Johnson, international running back Jewel Hampton and international linebacker Darrin Kitchens to the roster.
